Public is one of the largest retail chains in Greece, offering a wide product range - from books and technology to home appliances and lifestyle products

Public

Public operates simultaneously as a multi-category retailer, a high-traffic promotional platform, a marketplace with third-party sellers, and a brand with strong cultural positioning.

The challenge

This complexity created significant architectural and UX challenges, including deep navigation structures, cross-category discovery, campaign-heavy layouts, mobile scalability requirements, and the need for a consistent checkout experience.

The objective was to introduce structural clarity and system-level consistency without restricting commercial flexibility or promotional agility

My approach

Conversion optimization

Key UX decisions focused on:

  • Clear CTAs

  • Reduced checkout friction

  • Transparent shipping & availability messaging

  • Mobile-first interaction patterns

Given the scale of traffic, small UX improvements had a measurable business impact.

Product-first design

Product listing and detail pages were redesigned to:

  • Improve visual hierarchy

  • Emphasize pricing and availability

  • Support quick comparison

  • Highlight promotions without clutter

The goal was to balance commercial urgency with clarity.

Scalable Information Architecture

I focused on creating a clearer category structure and navigation system that supports both exploratory browsing and goal-driven search.

Mega menus, filtering systems, and cross-category linking were structured to reduce friction in large product sets.

Outcome

The redesign improved navigation clarity, product discoverability, mobile usability, and conversion flow consistency.

Public.gr evolved into a more structured, scalable digital retail platform capable of supporting both brand storytelling and high-volume commerce.
