EU Presidency-Belgium

Each Presidency lasts six months. During this period, the presiding country chairs meetings of the Council and its preparatory bodies, sets policy priorities and agendas, and supports cooperation and compromise among Member States.

The problem

As the Presidency changes, the official Presidency website also evolves, adapting its content, structure, and visual identity to reflect the priorities, language, and national context of the country holding the Presidency.

This approach ensures continuity in information and governance while allowing each Member State to express its Presidency’s focus and identity within the framework of the Council of the European Union.

The challenge was to communicate the presidency's role and priorities to a diverse audience while respecting strict EU web standards and an institutional tone.

Business goals

The goal was to provide a clear and trustworthy digital platform that communicates the Belgian Presidency’s priorities and activities with minimal cognitive load. The website needed to comply with EU standards and accessibility requirements while remaining easy to update throughout the six-month Presidency cycle.

The solution

The design focuses on clarity, structure, and institutional credibility. A modular layout and strong visual hierarchy guide users through complex content, highlighting key news, events, and priorities without overwhelming them. Large imagery is used selectively to add context and human presence, while consistent typography and spacing support readability across sections.

The overall visual language balances a formal EU identity with a contemporary feel, ensuring the website feels authoritative yet accessible. Accessibility, responsiveness, and content flexibility were central to the design, allowing the platform to adapt to frequent updates throughout the Presidency period.
